Developer:
Omega Force
Publisher: KOEI
Platform: PS2
Release Date: May 06, 2004

by Jason Ferguson

KOEI has become famous worldwide for making quality games. Dynasty Warriors, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Dynasty Tactics are just a few of their claims to fame. Early next month KOEI will release their newest game, Samurai Warriors. Set in ancient Japan, Samurai Warriors will offer a similar experience as Dynasty Warriors, with many new features!

In 1467, a series of wars erupted in Japan. Many leaders arose during this period of war in an atempt to unite Japan. The game stars Sanada Yukimara, leader of an elite band of samurai and ninja. Playing as Sanada and his forces, you will engage in fierce combat on the hallowed battlefields of Okehezama to the walls of Osaka Castle.

Each character, from Sanada Yukimara to Nobunaga Oda and Oichi, has their own scenario branches and multiple endings. All in all, the game features 90 stateges! The Active Mission System is sometimes triggered during battle where the player will have the option to decline or accept a mission. Missions will evolve with the players performance and can affect later scenarios. There re 500 variations to missions, so each playthrough is unique!

The game also will feature an officer mode. Players can create their own character by challenging a series of mini-games and training them through combat. You can create up to 15 new officers, and can use them in the games other play modes.

Your characters can weild katanas, fling deadly shuriken, and use many other deadly weapons. Fight using the stealth of a ninja and unleash Musou attacks! Each character has specific actions to emphasize their personalities.

Samurai Warriors features an Auton Formation System (AFS), which automatically generates the level layout and conquest routes, which will deliver a new experience with each play. Levels also feature traps, such as floor pitfalls and false staircases. Be careful in each level if you want to survive.

The game features large, beautiful environments. On the battlefield, you'll see smoke rise from distant battles, and lightning will streak across the night-time sky. The great character detail seen in the Dynasty Warriors games can again be seen in Samurai Warriors, with realistic movements and unique appearance.

Fans of the Dynasty series, and those eager for non-stop action, will definately want to check this game out. Look forward to the release early next month.
