Release Date: June 27, 2006

In the summer of 2006, Disney will be releasing the sequel to their multi-million dollar box office hit, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Around the same time of the movie's release, Bethesda Softworks will be releasing Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow, a game inspired by the series.

The story line in Legend of Jack Sparrow takes place some time between the first film, The Black Pearl, and the upcoming Dead Man's Chest. Players will be taking on the roles of Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and even Elizabeth Swan, as you hack and slash your way through a number of different enemies. For the most part, the game revolves mostly around Jack and Will, and players will be able to switch back and forth between the two characters.

Since Legend of Jack Sparrow takes place between the two films, the creators had a lot more freedom than, say, a film based strictly on one of the films. This freedom comes into play in terms of some of the enemies, and some of the many locations that you will visit throughout your adventure. The enemies of the game range from the ghost pirates that were seen in the first film to the Royal Navy.

If you’re looking for a little multi-player action, then you should feel right at home with this game. The game features co-op, where the players will be able to take on the role of one of the game's playable characters, and looks like it should be exciting. Plus, unlike many multi-player action games, both Jack and Will have completely different fighting styles and move sets. The actual game's combat is pretty much hack and slash, but the characters also have abilities to heighten the experience. These abilities can be purchased at the end of a level by obtaining the required amount of money.

With Legend of Jack Sparrow being told in the perspective of Jack Sparrow, it was almost necessary to bring aboard Johnny Depp, the Oscar-nominated actor who brought the character to life. Fans won’t be disappointed, because Johnny Depp has been brought aboard to supply the voice work for everyone’s favorite pirate. Sadly, Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley won’t be, but from what I’ve heard, the individual voicing Will Turner sounds pretty close to the actor.

From the looks of it, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow is looking to be an exciting game. After all, what’s not to love about a video game with light RPG elements, fast-paced, fun action, co-op play, and Johnny Depp? Remember to stick with Just RPG for further coverage of the upcoming game.
