If you remember the commercials and only the commercials, you probably thought this game looked pretty cool. What's not to love? You get to be King Arthur himself, leading huge armies into battle against advanced AI, while encountering various other legendary playable characters to aid you on your quest such as Lancelot, Merlin, and some angry dwarf I've never heard of. So chances are most gamers were pretty excited about the idea of an Arthur RPG. Lucky for you, I already played through the game so I can warn you ahead of time. You heard it right, I need to WARN you. After realizing that they let this desecration be published on the PS2 I almost burst into tears.

Gameplay
You would think that being King Arthur, greatest warrior in the land, he would at least be equipped with a decent running speed. These levels are pretty huge, and if you miss an item or person you need to pick up, or get called back to save the town and you're out in the middle of a jungle, it's gonna be 20 minutes or so. Seriously. That being said, my main pet peeve about this game is the matter of sword fighting. See, you hit the X button, and he swings, and at the end of the swing his sword flashes, that's when you hit X again. The real special part is that if you time it right he does a big vague circle swinging move with his sword that is unblockable and knocks back any enemies around you. This is key in the first few levels where enemies don’t really know how to block, but every level after the 4th or 5th (I think there are about 15 of them total) the baddies will block EVERYTHING. To summarize, the gameplay sucks. To further rant about it, though, the best move you get in the game is a dragon summon (sounds cool, huh?) where a small orange misty kind of dragon shape appears above you and does enough damage to maybe take 1/4 of a bad guy's life away. Wow. Impressive. Thrilling. zzzzz.

Sound/Music
Repetitive. Repetitive. Repetitive. Repetitive. There was such potential for great background music, sounds of war, catapults exploding, all that good stuff. Yet the closest they came was Arthur going "the enemy is up ahead!" every single time somebody came near you. It was horrible, even the bad guys in the game were fleeing just to avoid hearing him say it again. I'm pretty sure there's only one sword clanging sound in the whole game... plus they use that sound when you cut somebody's head off or stab an archer. I just don't understand why they did this to PS2. So much potential.

Plot
Well... you know that story... Morgan LeFay kills Arthur's dad (one of the two crappy, crappy cinemas in the game), Arthur swears revenge, meets some friends, stabs some people, kills Morgan. I just did much better than the game did at telling that story.

Graphics
It runs smoothly, you can light forests and houses on fire with your dragon and that looks kinda cool, pretty nice smoke effect while burning down innocent villages. The 2 cinemas, one of them is Morgan killing Uther Pendragon in the beginning, and the second, when you beat the game, is Arthur standing in a field staring into space... for 3 minutes. Just skip 'em.

Overall
Don't come anywhere near this game. I give this game... a... uh.... 30. The only reason it gets that is cause you can burn down people's houses and watch 'em cry.
